FAQ’S

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do people go to therapy?

People seek therapy for many reasons — from navigating life transitions or relationship stress to managing anxiety, trauma, or identity-related challenges. Therapy can be a space for healing, personal growth, or simply receiving support when things feel overwhelming or unclear.

What do we do in therapy sessions?

Each session is guided by your needs. You might bring in a topic you’re ready to explore or continue working on something from prior sessions. If you’re unsure where to begin, your therapist can help guide the conversation. Between sessions, you may be invited to reflect, journal, or try out new skills — always at your pace.

How long do people typically stay in therapy?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some clients work through a specific concern in a few months; others choose to continue longer to explore deeper patterns or multiple areas of growth. Your goals and comfort will shape the length of your treatment, and we’ll revisit this together as you progress.

How often do I need to attend therapy sessions?

For most clients, we recommend starting with weekly sessions, especially when exploring new or significant topics. As you begin to feel more confident in your growth, we may discuss reducing frequency — for example, moving to biweekly or monthly sessions when appropriate.

Do you offer in-person therapy?

At this time, all therapy sessions are held online through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. This allows us to provide accessible care to clients throughout the DMV area while maintaining flexibility and privacy.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes! Adonis Therapy and Wellness is in-network with several insurance providers (varies by state and clinician). We also accept out-of-network clients and offer self-pay options. Please visit our Services page for the most up-to-date information.

Who do you work with?

We specialize in working with adult individuals and couples, particularly those navigating:

  • Perinatal mental health (prenatal, postpartum, fertility)

  • Anxiety and self-esteem issues

  • First-generation experiences

  • Life transitions

  • LGBTQ+ and BIPOC identity stressors

We strive to offer care that is culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and affirming of all identities.

Are your therapists LGBTQ+ affirming?

Yes. Our team is committed to providing inclusive, affirming, and identity-conscious care. We support clients in exploring gender, sexuality, and relationships in a nonjudgmental and respectful space.

Do you offer therapy for parents or postpartum support?

Absolutely. Many of our therapists have seasoned experience and a passion for perinatal mental health. We support clients navigating fertility, pregnancy, postpartum challenges, identity shifts in parenthood, and relationship changes after having children.

Do I have to live in the same state as my therapist?

Yes. Due to licensing laws, you must physically be located in a state where your therapist is licensed at the time of your session. We’ll confirm your location at the start of each appointment.
